Market trend · Extended Trading hours

24×5 trading: the opportunity is operational.

US clearing already runs around the clock and the exchange night sessions follow in December 2026. The demand driver in every filing is Asia-Pacific and Europe, which means the new session lands in your clients’ working day. The revenue is real. Capturing it without a night shift is an automation question.

Effective 4 June 2026

The new trading week

Sunday evening to Friday evening, in your clients' hours.

The approved 23×5 structure runs Sunday 8:00 p.m. to Friday 8:00 p.m. ET with a nightly one-hour pause. Mapped to local time, the US night session is the Asian and European business day.

Night session

9:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m. ET

Prime time in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. The session your clients have never been able to trade.

Early session

4:00 - 9:30 a.m. ET

The European trading day, and the APAC evening. Existing pre-market flow, now inside a continuous week.

Core session

9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET

Deepest liquidity and tightest spreads. Unchanged, and still the benchmark for execution quality.

Late session

4:00 - 8:00 p.m. ET

Post-close and earnings reaction, running into the APAC morning.

Maintenance pause

8:00 - 9:00 p.m. ET

One hour for clearing rollover, corporate actions and trade-date transition. Everything that used to have a night now has sixty minutes.

Trade date

Session, not clock

A trade at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday ET is a Tuesday trade settling Wednesday. Every booking, report and statement must carry the session.

Why this matters commercially

For once, the US market opens on your clients' clock.

New flow

US access in local hours

APAC and Gulf clients hold US equities but were structurally locked out of US hours. The night session removes the exclusion.

Wallet share

Global desks route to whoever is open

Institutional flow consolidates on intermediaries that can execute, clear and report overnight. That decision is being made now.

Client retention

Always-on is becoming the default

Off-hours activity already accounts for around 11.5% of US equity volume. Clients who trade at night will bank where they can.

Financing

Margin and stock-borrow revenue

A longer week extends margin interest, securities lending and FX funding across sessions that previously generated nothing.

The catch

The cost is operational, not commercial

A trade at 2:00 a.m. still needs risk checks, clearing submission, affirmation, funding and surveillance, while your teams are asleep.

The test

Screens open longer is not a capability

Regulators and allocators will test the back end. Firms pass on the front end and fail on post-trade, risk and surveillance.

Automation is what makes it profitable

What has to run without a person in the room.

Through the night session

Continuous trade capture with session and trade-date stamping.

Into the pause

Corporate actions applied automatically as announcements arrive.

Across the week

Exception-only operations - people work breaks, not queues.

Real-time positions and cash, no window where the book is dark.

Clearing rollover and trade-date transition handled without a batch.

Continuous reconciliation instead of an end-of-day cycle.

Intraday margin and buying power recalculated as exposure moves.

Same-day affirmation on overnight trades, ahead of the T+1 deadline.

Session-stamped audit trail assembled as the work happens.

Every hour you add to the trading week is either an hour of automation or an hour of headcount. Only one of them scales.

The C-suite outcome

Capture the session before your competitors staff it.

01

New revenue

Live US trading offered inside APAC and European business hours.

02

Cost decoupled from hours

A longer trading week absorbed by automation, not by a night shift.

03

Real-time risk

Intraday margin and exposure across every session, not a daily snapshot.

04

Supervisory confidence

Session-stamped records and decision logs, ready for examination.

05

Move first

Capability in weeks, while competitors are still costing shift patterns.

The session opens in December. Let's talk about your roadmap.

We will model the night session against your own trade flow, and show what it takes to run it on the headcount you already have.
